Magic of Aromatherapy on Labor and Birth

Essential oils have chemical properties that affect the body through the limbic system. Pregnant women should consult a licensed aroma therapist before using pure essential oils for any therapeutic application. The most effective oils are 100% pure and are extracted by many processes like steam distillation or cold expression. Oils that are safe for pregnancy and labor are usually diluted by 50% more than those used by others. It is recommended to undergo a skin test to eliminate the possibility of allergy before using any therapeutic oil. Remember not to use the oils internally or apply directly on the skin. Always check with other pregnant women for possible allergies or sensitivities to any scent.

Listed below are some of the essential oils that are useful for labor. Essential oils should be diluted at 6 drops per 8 ounces of carrier oil/lotion to be applied externally for massage. You can also try to put 8 ounces of water for room sprays which will create magical results. Another good idea is to mix 3-4 drops of oil with a tablespoon of honey to experience a good bath. Eventually, warm wet compresses with a drop or two of oil and held over the face will create therapeutic effect which is really soothing. Likewise, few drops of the oil on cotton balls or strips of thick paper can be held under the nose to experience a healing touch.
